Method 1: Using Noise Reduction Effect
In this method, we will isolate the vocals from a whole track and remove the instrumentals afterward. Simply, this is the process of making an acapella sound, if you are familiar with the word "acapella".
- First off, you have to download Audacity on your computer. If you’re running a Windows OS, get the installer for such but if you have an Apple computer, download Audacity for Mac OS here.
- Run the installer of the application and follow the onscreen instructions. Once the application has been installed, launch it on your PC.
- Now that you have Audacity, locate your audio file and import it on the program. You can do this by clicking on File > Import > Audio.
- Select the portion that you want to edit and go to Effects then choose Voice
Reduction and Isolation
- Proceed to Action and open the drop-down menu. Click on Isolate Vocals and click on Preview to listen to your audio.
- In case there is still a piece of background music or noise, you can fine-tune it by editing the Strength, High Cut Vocal, and High Cut Vocal.
- Once you are satisfied with your finished product, click Ok.
- To save your file, click on File > Export then choose the format
Method 2: Using the Invert Effect
- Open the Audacity app and import the regular soundtrack and instrumental track you want to edit.
- Select one from those tracks and use the Time Shift to align the two tracks.
- Zoom in the tracks to get the exact alignment, otherwise, the entire process will not work.
- Then, select the instrumental track and go to the Effects menu.
- Choose Invert.
- Select both tracks or simply press CRTL+A on your keyboard.
- Lastly, click on Tracks, select Mix, and choose Mix and Render.
- And you’re done.
